If nobody knows what we’re singing Who’s impressing who? [Verse 2] They say Japanese sounds kind of cheesy So let’s replace it with some English lines “Forever,” “baby,” “crazy,” “maybe” There, now everything sounds twice as nice Funny how a word becomes attractive The moment half the room can’t understand Maybe mystery is fashionable Maybe meaning wasn’t in the plan [Pre-Chorus] I don’t need a foreign dictionary To make a simple feeling real I’d rather use the words that reach you Than the ones that only sound ideal [Chorus] I can say, “Stay here” I can say, “Don’t go” I can say, “The night feels cold today” And somehow you will know I can say, “Eat well” Or “Call me when you can” There are countless ways to love someone Without saying what I am So why do we hide our own language Like it’s something we outgrew? What’s so embarrassing about a word That actually reaches you? [Bridge] Maybe English really does sound cooler Maybe I fell for it as well Maybe I’m exactly who I’m laughing at Honestly, it’s hard to tell I wrote a song about how words should reach you How your own voice should be enough And then I wrote the whole damn thing in English …Well, that’s awkward. [Final Chorus] So I can say, “Stay here” I can say, “Don’t go” There are a thousand ways to mean it In the language that I know No language needs permission To be beautiful or cool And using words nobody understands Doesn’t automatically make you cool I wanted you to hear my meaning Not just say the sound was nice So naturally, I sang this whole thing In a language you might not understand [Outro] Yeah.
